4 Fireplace Facelifts

By Alexandra Lauren

Although kitchens are considered the heart of the home, fireplaces are a close second when it comes to defining the gathering space of your interior. Traditional, modern, or contemporary, we love the way fireplaces can bring a focal point to a room and provide warmth in both function and aesthetic.

Your fireplace can be the heart of your home, but is it making the statement you want? Whether it's tucked away in a corner or in need of a modern upgrade, there are countless ways to revamp your fireplace and transform it into a true focal point. In this post, I’ll share four of my recent fireplace transformations that bring warmth, style, and functionality into any space.

There are not many things I enjoy more than enjoying the flickering flames, warmth, comfort and relaxation with friends and family. Sitting around the fire with my family in Montana last week I got to thinking about the most frequently asked fireplace questions I receive, and thought I would put some of our transformations with answers and tips here!

1. The Corner Conversion: Turning a Hidden Fireplace Into a Statement Piece

Is your fireplace stuck in a corner, gathering dust and not quite making the impact it deserves? We specialize in taking these forgotten corners and turning them into showstoppers. By extending the fireplace across the full wall, adding a sleek, linear fireplace box, and carefully recessing the TV, we create a sophisticated modern look that draws the eye without overwhelming the room.

The key to this transformation? Consistency and flow. We used the same stone from the kitchen countertop for the hearth, ensuring the space feels unified and stylish.

The floating wood shelves add warmth, mimicking the natural tones of the floors, while carefully curated accessories like decorative jars, hurricane candle holders, and a chandelier provide the perfect finishing touches. Shop our curated assortment of finishing elements here…

2. Raising Your Hearth to Eye Level: The Ultimate Modern Fireplace Upgrade

What if your fireplace could not only be beautiful but also more functional? Imagine a space where your TV and fireplace are perfectly in sync. By raising the hearth to eye level and integrating the TV into the design, we were able to create a balanced, modern focal point. Previously this home had a tile hearth, we utilized the same footprint but simply built it up, thus not effecting the footprint of the beautiful wood floors in this home in Jackson, Tennessee.

3. Fireballs: Add a Contemporary Touch with a Dynamic Flame Pattern

Looking for a modern twist on your fireplace? Consider replacing traditional logs with decorative fireballs. These sleek, eye-catching additions not only create a dynamic flame pattern, but they’re also practical. Fireballs distribute heat evenly and are low maintenance—an ideal choice for anyone seeking a hassle-free fireplace solution.

Whether crafted from ceramic or concrete, fireballs bring a chic, contemporary vibe to any space. These bold accessories enhance the modern aesthetic of the room while providing warmth and comfort at the push of a button. The best part? You can easily switch them on, making your fireplace as easy to use as it is beautiful. It is easy to have your contractor place your gas set onto a light switch, and there are many remote controlled options on the market. Many remotes and log set systems have heat controlled settings for heat output and flame height with the click of a remote. I always love using one of these two options.

4. Simple Updates: Modern Mantels and Custom Lighting for Maximum Impact

Not everyone wants a full-on renovation. Sometimes, all it takes is a few updates to elevate the look of your fireplace. In this transformation, we opted for a sleek, modern mantel with clean lines, allowing the TV to be mounted directly above it. To complete the look, we extended the height of the existing bookshelves to the ceiling, creating symmetry and adding character.

But the real magic comes from the accent lighting. By installing sconces alongside the fireplace and TV, we added multiple sources of soft, ambient lighting. This not only enhances the atmosphere but also prevents glare on your TV screen. The fireballs in the fireplace provide additional depth, transforming your space from ordinary to extraordinary with just a few thoughtful touches.

The Most Frequently Recieved Questions About Fireplace Transformations

  • Can I install a TV above my fireplace? Yes, it’s absolutely possible! When designed properly, a TV can be mounted above your fireplace for a modern and functional look. Just be sure to leave adequate space between the TV and fireplace for heat protection, typically around 8 to 12 inches. We specialize in designs that recess the TV into the wall, creating a sleek, streamlined aesthetic.

  • What’s the difference between traditional logs and fireballs? While traditional logs offer a more rustic look, fireballs provide a contemporary, minimalist alternative. They’re made from materials like ceramic or concrete, offering a unique flame pattern that enhances your space while requiring less maintenance. Fireballs are also more energy-efficient, distributing heat evenly.

  • How can I make my fireplace more modern? A modern fireplace design often involves clean lines, a sleek surround, and minimalistic accents. Consider updating your mantel, adding a linear fireplace box, or incorporating design elements like marble or stone for a high-end look. Floating shelves and custom lighting can also enhance the overall aesthetic, creating a cozy yet sophisticated vibe.
